After the Italian Grand Prix FP1 and FP2, Lewis Hamilton says he is “giving everything out there, it just doesn’t feel particularly quick”.

Although in Italian Grand Prix FP1, Mercedes managed to get P3 and P4, in FP2 the team dropped down to P5 and P7.

Lewis Hamilton was the driver in P7, and he was almost a second off the pace set by Carlos Sainz. The Briton says he’s not sure why.

“We just made some set-up changes, nothing major,” Lewis said.

“But we went a lot slower somehow, or [Ferrari and Red Bull] went a lot quicker. I’m giving everything out there, it just doesn’t feel particularly quick.”

With Hamilton set to start from the back of the grid due to a power unit change, Mercedes could opt to use him to give a tow to Russell in qualifying.

“It’s George’s turn to choose this weekend, whether he goes first or second,” Lewis explained.

“So most likely he will choose to go behind me, so I’ll just do my normal program and he’ll get a tow,” the Briton concluded.
