After suffering another loss at the hands of Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton says he is “praying for a different scenario in the next race”.
After winning the Austrian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen extended his championship lead over Lewis Hamilton to 32 points.
The Briton says there’s nothing he can do to stop him at this moment.
“These past races have been difficult and he is pretty much just cruising ahead so there’s really not much I can do about that,” the Briton said.
“Of course, I’m praying for a different scenario in the next race. You look at their car and it’s just on rails so we’re giving it absolutely everything.
“This past two weeks I’ve been to the factory each week trying to extract as much as I can from the car but our car just doesn’t go well here [at the Red Bull Ring] for some reason, and I really hope that it does in the next ones.”

Asked if he thinks his eighth title is slipping away, Lewis said his focus is only on improving performance.
“I’m not really focusing on that, to be honest, I’m just trying to get better performance.”
As for the expected updates for the W12, Hamilton says they will not be the ‘silver bullet’.
“We have a little bit coming, but it’s not going to close the gap enough so we’ve got to do some more work.”
