Lewis Hamilton was not present at the FIA’s year-end Prize-Giving Ceremony, but he did pick up the Action of the Year award.

At last night’s FIA’s Prize-Giving Gala, Lewis Hamilton was awarded the Action of the Year Award for for his overtaking manoeuvre on both Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc at the 2022 British Grand Prix.

Perez and Leclerc were fighting each other in the closing stages of the race, when on the last corner of the lap, Lewis shot past both of them to get to P2. Unfortunately he was later overtaken by Perez again, as his Mercedes was just not fast enough, but it made for an amazing moment.

Lewis’ double overtake has beaten out 10 other nominated on-track actions, across 10 racing categories sanctioned by the governing organization. The winner was determined by fan vote.

The ceremony was held in Bologna, Italy, however Lewis was not present to accept the award, as he has been travelling since the end of the season.

Last year Lewis also skipped the ceremony, in response to the unjust finish of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and was later fined.

However this year, because he did not finish the season in the top 3, he was not required to attend.
