After qualifying in P7 for the Canadain Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton says “the car was feeling great all weekend”, but “as soon as we got to qualifying that kind of vanished”.
Lewis Hamilton’s performance through Canadian Grand Prix free practice sessions has been great, and he even topped FP3.
However, in Qualifying, while his team-mate George Russell managed to put his car on pole, Lewis couldn’t do better than P7.
Afterwards he was puzzled by the drop in performance of his car.
“The car’s been feeling great throughout the weekend,” the Briton said.
“Congrats to George, he had plenty of pace between FP3 and then when qualifying started.
“The conditions were great. The conditions were perfect. Just for some reason the tyres weren’t working the whole session, I just didn’t have grip.

“I had like an easy half a second advantage in FP3 and that was gone.”
Later when talking to Sky Sports F1, Lewis again highlighted the fact that his car’s performance just disappeared.
“Everyone’s worked so hard to bring upgrades back at the factory. The car was feeling great all weekend, as soon as we got to qualifying that kind of vanished.”
Asked to explain what feeling he lost in quali, Lewis said:
“The grip just disappears from me. FP3 I had plenty of pace, then get to qualifying and the tyres don’t work.”
