Lewis Hamilton will switch to a spare chassis for the rest of the Austrian Grand Prix, while a new video shows the Briton wanting to help Mercedes’ mechanics.
After Lewis Hamilton put his car into the barrier at the Austrian Grand Prix Qualifying, Mercedes was in for a long night of trying to fix the car in time for Saturday’s Free Practice 2.
According to Auto Motor und Sport, Lewis “needs a new chassis for Austrian Grand Prix. The side impact crash structure was destroyed yesterday after hitting tyres barriers in Turn 7″.
The same was confirmed by BBC’s Andrew Benson.

“Mercedes have switched Lewis Hamilton to the spare chassis because of damage incurred in his crash in qualifying on Friday,” he wrote on Twitter.
“It is a chassis he has already raced this year,” Benson concluded.
Mercedes has since released a video of Lewis looking at his mechanics fixing the car. In the video he confirms the chassis needed to be changed, and says he wishes he could help, but he’d “just be getting in the way”.
