Lewis Hamilton, who “battled to help Mercedes develop its troubled W13”, has won Autosport’s 2022 British Competition Driver of the Year Award.

Autosport readers have voted Lewis Hamilton the best British driver of the 2022 season, ahead of team-mate George Russell, McLaren’s Lando Norris and IMSA SportsCar champion Tom Blomqvist.

It is the eighth time that Lewis has won the Award. In their article presenting the Briton, Autosport wrote that he “battled to help Mercedes develop its troubled W13 during 2022 and finished sixth in the drivers’ standings with nine podium finishes”.

The award was presented on December 4 at the Autosport Awards at Grosvenor House on Park Lane. While accepting the award, Lewis addressed the crown via video link.

“Good evening everyone,” Hamilton said.
