Former F1 driver, and long-time Ferrari test driver, Marc Gené says he expects Mercedes to “make a big step” at the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix.
Mercedes have been struggling with their 2022 car since pre-season testing and the performance issues have spilled over into the first three races of the season.
At the moment the team is unable to challenge Red Bull and Ferrari at the top of the field, and they are yet to introduce any significant updates for their car.
Former F1 driver, who has most famously been a Ferrari test driver in the 2000s, expects to see a big update from Mercedes at the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix.

“I can see [Mercedes bringing updates], but I can’t see it in the short term,” Gené told Sky Sports.
“Unless it’s a set-up issue. If it’s a set-up issue they could find it at some point very quickly.
“If it’s a problem of bringing development parts, it’s very hard for Imola for example. I think for them it’s going to be more Barcelona.
“Barcelona could be a place where big updates are being brought in and that’s when I expect Mercedes to make a big step and challenge for wins,” concluded the Spaniard.
