Bernardo Viana, a part of Felipe Massa’s legal team, says they hope that Lewis Hamilton “will support” the Brazilian’s bid to retroactively be crowned the 2008 champion.
Felipe Massa is currently in the process of launching a legal battle to reverse the results of the 2008 championship, because he feels he unjustly lost the drivers’ title due to an incident that happened at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
The Brazilian wants the results of that race to be changed, because the outcome was influenced by Nelson Piquet Jr. crashing his car on purpose to help his team-mate Fernano Alonso win the race.
Since Massa ultimately lost the 2008 title battle to Lewis Hamilton by one point, if the results of that race are thrown out, he would end up having more points than the Briton.
Of course, taking the title away from Hamilton on account of this incident would be absolutely unjust, since the incident in question didn’t have anything to do with Lewis, nor did it help him directly in any way. It actually affected all drivers in the same way, except for Alonso, who directly benefitted from it and won the race.

Now Massa’s legal team claims they “have absolutely nothing against Hamilton”, and in fact would like Lewis to support their quest.
“He is an important ambassador for the sport and has always defended sporting integrity,” Bernardo Viana, a part of Massa’s legal team, told Reuters.
“He is an honorary Brazilian citizen and very well liked by Brazilians, so I hope he will support us.”
Viana also revealed they have pushed back the deadline for Formula 1 and the FIA to respond to their Letter Before Claim.
“The ball is on their court, we’ve been waiting for their response,” he said.
“They asked for more time, until mid-October, and in good faith we have agreed to that,” Viana concluded.
