Lewis Hamilton recently said that he had much stronger team-mates in his F1 career, than Max Verstappen. Max responds and says Lewis might be “jealous” of his success.
In an interview ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton pointed out that he has had to compete against much stronger team-mates than Max Verstappen.
Considering how Lewis’ team-mates were world champions Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg, as well as drivers like Valtteri Bottas and George Russell, there’s no doubt that it’s a very strong lineup.
On the other hand, Verstappen had to share the team with the likes of Daniel Ricciardo, Sergio Perez, Alex Albon and Pierre Gasly, all great drivers, but definitely not as accomplished as Lewis’ aforementioned team-mates.
However, when asked to comment on Lewis’ statement, Verstappen said it might be a sign of ‘jealousy’.
“Maybe Lewis is a bit jealous of my current success,” the Dutch driver told De Telegraaf.
“He might think he can win something with those kinds of statements, but it doesn’t matter to me.”

He added that this might also be a sign of Mercedes having a hard time dealing with not being able to race at the front of the field anymore.
“I think Mercedes has a hard time dealing with losing after winning so much for so many years. But at some point, you have to be realistic when you know it’s not there.
“Then you have to appreciate what other teams are doing. We’ve always done that in the years when they were dominant.
“You can keep shouting that what we’re doing isn’t that special or have that tone. Maybe they don’t always say it, but they think it.
“While you should just focus on yourself. That’s the only thing you have control over.
“I don’t need these kinds of things,” Verstappen concluded.
