After his collision with Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton said he was going to reach out to him, and now Max confirms Lewis did indeed call him.

The collision at the British Grand Prix sent Max Verstappen into the barrier at high-speed. After the race Lewis said he was going to contact Max to check on him and have a chat about the incident.

Now at the Hungarian Grand Prix Thursday press conference Verstappen confirmed Lewis did indeed call him.

“Yeah, he did call me,” said the Dutch driver.

“I don’t need to go into details about that but we did have a chat.”

Max said after the race that he was especially displeased with the fact that Lewis and Mercedes’ celebrated their win while he was in the hospital for a precautionary checkup, even calling it “disrespectful”.

At the press conference he was asked about his comments.

“If you mean with disrespectful, when one guy is in the hospital and the other one is waving the flag around like nothing has happened, while you pushed the guy into the wall at 51G…

“And not only that, just the whole reaction of the team besides that, I think. That’s not how you celebrate the win, especially a win how they got it.

“So yeah, that’s what I found really disrespectful and in a way I mean it shows how they really are, you know. It comes out after a pressured situation.

“But I wouldn’t want to be seen like that.”

Despite being displeased with the situation, Max said he was eager to get the whole thing behind him.

“You anyway can’t change the outcome. I mean, I’m not happy with what happened there, especially to lose that many points due to someone else, but it’s what it is.

“I can’t really say a lot more about it, you know. I hit the wall quite hard, which is never what you want, but yeah, we’ll try, of course, have a good weekend here,” concluded Verstappen.

SilverArrows.Net reaction:

It’s important to note here that by the time the post-race celebration rolled around, Lewis and Mercedes already knew Max was unharmed, and that he was in the hospital just as a precaution, which was confirmed by Toto Wolff.

Another important note is that Lewis did not push Max “into the wall”, he was keeping his line. As far as he was concerned the whole incident wasn’t his fault, which we also believe to be the case.
