Max Verstappen wants Mercedes to ‘do him a favour’ in Hungary

Max Verstappen says he was surprised to see George Russell get pole at the Hungarian Grand Prix Qualifying, but adds this is good for him.

George Russell surprised everyone when he put his car on pole at the Hungarian Grand Prix Qualifying.

One of the people who were surprised was championship leader Max Verstappen, who qualified in P10 due to a loss of power.

“I was surprised to see [Russell get pole position],” Verstappen said.

“I mean, they were close, but I didn’t expect them to make that that jump in Q3, but it’s nice for me as well.”

Considering how his two main championship rivals Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are in P2 and P3 respectively, the Dutchman says Mercedes can do him a favour by finishing the race ahead of them.

“Well, they need to do me a favour – that’s more important,” he concluded.
