Mercedes’ Motorsport Strategy Director James Vowles says “the W14 has to be a step, and will be a step over where we are now”.

Mercedes has been struggling with the performance of its car for most of 2022. The car did improved over time, but it is still not good enough to consistently challenge for wins.

In the team’s United States Grand Prix debrief video, a fan sent a comment saying he hopes Mercedes will produce a “rocket beast” of a car for 2023.

Mercedes’ Motorsport Strategy Director James Vowles said the team is definitely aiming to do just that.

“We had one statement, I think it was that the W14 is going to be a ‘rocket beast’,” Vowles said.

“It’s probably different terminology internally but completely, we mirror your sentiment on this one. We’re here to come back and fight for wins and the championship next year.

“And the W14 has to be a step, and will be a step over where we are now,” the Briton concluded.
