Earlier this week Dutch De Telegraaf newspaper reported that Mercedes offered Lewis Hamilton a one-year extension. The team declined to comment.

According to De Telegraaf, the length of the contract is one of the things holding up a new deal between Hamilton and Mercedes, with Lewis wanting a longer term deal. Another issue is a pay raise that Hamilton allegedly demands.

Formula1News.co.uk reports it has approached Mercedes for comment. In a statement the team said they “don’t comment on speculation and rumours, and there are a lot of them about right now.”

“This shouldn’t be understood as any kind of indication that De Telegraaf is correct; it’s simply our house policy not to engage with speculation.”

Earlier Mercedes already called reports of alleged Hamilton money issues “pure fiction”.
