Mercedes confirmed it is running DAS in Austria, however, Red Bull is still inquiring about the legality of the innovative system.

Mercedes introduced its innovative Dual Axis Steering system during pre-season testing and shocked the F1 world. The system allows the drivers to adjust the angle of their front wheels by pushing or pulling on the steering wheel.

The legality of the system was questioned by many rival teams, most prominently Red Bull, who during FP1 again reiterated it is seeking clarification from the FIA.

“It really depends on what it actually does and achieves,” said Red Bull team principal Christian Horner.

“Everything like this has to earn its place on the car. It’s a clever system and it’s an ingenious system.

“But, these rules are so complex. It’s just understanding which part of the regulations it fits.”

According to the 2021 F1 rules and regulations, the system will definitely not be legal next season.
