Mercedes has completed a filming day at the Circuit Paul Ricard and, according to Italian journalist Giuliano Duchessa, found progress with upgrades planned for Barcelona.

Ahead of their trip to Barcelona, Mercedes has competed a previously scheduled behind-closed-doors filming day in France, at the Circuit Paul Ricard, with George Russell behind the wheel.

Teams are allowed to have two filming days throughout the season, limited to 100km per session. However, there are no restrictions on which spec car they are allowed to run.

Well, according to Italian journalist Giuliano Duchessa, Mercedes used the opportunity to do a little test run for the upgrades they are planning on introducing at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Duchessa says the team found progress with a new rear wing configuration and updated power unit, which reportedly improved their straight-line speed by 3-4kph.

It remains to be seen if this report is accurate, but it has been rumoured for some time that Mercedes plans on introducing significant upgrades in Barcelona.

The filming day was confirmed by Mercedes on their social media channels. Apart from Mercedes, Ferrari completed their own filming day at Monza last Friday.
