Mercedes to clock up another 100 km in Bahrain

After a difficult pre-season test, Mercedes is getting ready to take to the track again on Tuesday for its scheduled filming day.

As Valtteri Bottas already said, the decision to postpone its filming day and first shakedown of the W12 until after pre-season testing might have been a mistake. Had the team performed their filming day at Silverstone ahead of the test, they might have discovered the gearbox issue that cut short Bottas’ morning session on day 1. In the end Mercedes drove the least number of laps of all the teams in pre-season testing.

Things being what they are, it’s good news that Mercedes still has to do their filming day on Tuesday. This means the team will do another 100 km with the W12 at the Bahrain International Circuit. Although Mercedes has to use Pirelli’s demo tyres, the extra mileage will surely help the team as they try to understand the issues they encountered during winter testing.
