Toto Wolff said Mercedes opted not to complete a filming day at Silverstone and will wait until testing to shakedown the W12.

The first shakedown of new machinery is traditionally done during filming days ahead of pre-season testing. Some F1 teams have already done their filming days, however Toto Wolff says Mercedes will wait until after testing and perform their filming day on March 16 in Bahrain.

“It always rains at Silverstone and we decided we don’t want to stand in the freezing rain again,” joked Wolff during Mercedes’ 2021 car launch.

“We will do the filming day between the Bahrain test and the Bahrain race on Tuesday.

“This is, I think, more representative and better pictures that can be utilised than we could probably get at Silverstone.”

This means the W12 will have its first shakedown on March 12 on day 1 of pre-season testing.
