Haas driver Mick Schumacher says “you only know if you can win a race in a Mercedes when you actually sit in it”.

Mick Schumacher entered Formula 1 in 2021 with Haas. Unfortunately the team decided to entirely focus on their 2022 car and basically used their 2020 car throughout the season, so the German was mostly stuck at the back of the field.

However, he says it would be presumptuous to think he could have won races if he was driving a Mercedes.

“Everyone deserves their place in Formula 1,” Schumacher told Auto Motor und Sport.

“Anyone can drive here. You only know if you can win a race in a Mercedes when you actually sit in it. It would be arrogant to say that.”

However, Mick looks forward to having more battles with other cars in the future.

“We’re not as far away as the 2019 Williams, so we still have a few battles.

“Of course I would like to have more, and of course I hope that I can grow and develop from it next year.”

Asked if He is looking at George Russell’s move from Williams to Mercedes as a motivation to make a similar switch in the future, Schumacher said he is not looking that far ahead.

“My focus is on next year. Everything else is too far away. I have to perform well next year first.

“If that is the case, I can look further into the future,” Mick concluded.
