Two-time world champion and McLaren Mercedes legend Mika Häkkinen thinks Lewis Hamilton is a clear favourite to win the 2020 title.
Häkkinen’s relationship with Mercedes is a strong one. The Finn was at McLaren when the British team switched to Mercedes engines in 1995 to form a long-lasting and highly successful partnership that lasted until 2014. He won his two F1 championship titles in 1998 and 1999, powered by Mercedes engines. Häkkinen is also Valtteri Bottas’ friend, mentor and a part of his management team.
Now, Häkkinen has put his faith in reigning champion Lewis Hamilton to defend his title once the 2020 season finally gets underway.
“He makes very few mistakes and is very mature,” said the Finn.
“He knows his car inside out but he is still learning things. I think it will be difficult for the others to beat him.”
