Reports are coming in that Nelson Piquet will be banned from the Formula 1 paddock due to his use of a racial slur against Lewis Hamilton.

After an audio clip of three-time Formula 1 champion Nelson Piquet using a racial slur when referring to Lewis Hamilton came to light, large parts of the F1 community have condemned the Brazilian’s words.

Piquet used the Brazilian slur “neguinho” when referring to Hamilton in his analysis of the Briton’s 2021 collision with Verstappen at the British Grand Prix.

The slur is a Brazilian equivalent to the “N-word”, and according to native Brazilian speakers, when used in a derogatory way, the term is considered to be racist.

Since Piquet’s words came to light, rumours have been swirling around that he could receive a lifetime ban from the Formula 1 paddock, if he doesn’t apologize.

The Brazilian did issue an “apology”, but in it he claimed there was no racial intent behind his words, and blamed the backlash on the inaccurate translation of the word he used.

Well, GPFans now reports that their sources tell them Piquet will not be allowed into the F1 paddock, regardless of the “apology”.

It’s worth noting that he is also the father of Max Verstappen’s girlfriend Kelly, but it appears he will not be able to follow the Dutch driver’s on-track exploits live and in person anymore.

It has to be noted, though, that this has yet to be officially confirmed by Formula 1.
