Lewis Hamilton’s former title rival and team-mate Nico Rosberg compares Max Verstappen’s clashes with Lewis to those he experienced himself.

2016 Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg knows what it means to battle Lewis Hamilton for the Formula 1 title. The duo had a fierce title rivalry from 2014 until 2016, while they were both driving for Mercedes.

While talking to the Express, Rosberg said Lewis and Max’s collision at the British Grand Prix reminded him of his own clash with the seven-time champion at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix.

“Wheel-to-wheel racing, and especially also with Lewis, so yes it did, it did remind me a little bit [of the 2016 clash],” the German said.

“But I think in my time it was even more complicated because it’s within the same team. So at least here you have the whole team behind Verstappen, the whole team behind Lewis.

“And then it’s the team against team and that does make it a little bit different.”

With the 2021 championship very closely fought, Rosberg says he enjoys watching the ‘battle of generations’.

“I mean it’s for us fans watching F1, especially once we all saw that he [Verstappen] was not injured, and from beyond that then it’s just a fantastic battle to follow this, this battle of the generations.

“Kind of the star of this generation, against the star of the next generation, is really so, so great fun to watch,” Nico concluded.
