Peter Windsor: “Lewis, as he does, paced it beautifully”

Former F1 personality Peter Windsor says he can’t believe Lewis Hamilton “finished second and it wasn’t a Red Bull one-two, because that’s how good the cars were”.

On his YouTube channel Peter Windsor strongly praised Lewis Hamilton’s Mexican Grand Prix drive, that saw him hold off Sergio Perez, in a much faster Red Bull, for more than ten laps.

“Perez was able to get 11 laps on Lewis, that was 11 laps he was going to have on newer hard tyres towards the end of the race,” Windsor said.

“It speaks of the quality of Lewis Hamilton’s drive in what was a pretty difficult car on the day. Nothing like as good as the Red Bull Honda on either the medium or the hard as it turned out.

“It was a pretty good drive by Lewis to defend and keep second place. Astonishing actually to my mind that Perez didn’t get P2 in a very very good car with tyres 11 laps newer,” Windsor said in the latest video on his youtube channel.

“But Lewis as he does, paced it beautifully, used the traffic well and got the DRS from the slower cars. He was held up by Lando in the sense he couldn’t get passed.

“Lando was there having done the longest stint on the medium tyres was now going quickly on the hard tyres.

“There was no way Hamilton could get three car lenths behind Norris without losing downforce. That allowed Sergio to close up with 10 laps to go.

“In the end, Norris moved over and we saw real gritty Lewis Hamilton putting the head down, no errors what so ever and driving beautifully.

“I can’t believe he finished second and it wasn’t a Red Bull one-two, because that’s how good the cars were,” Windsor concluded.
