After Red Bull’s dominant performance at the Belgian Grand Prix, Christian Horner and Helmut Marko ‘thanked’ Toto Wolff for advocating the FIA’s ‘anti-porpoising’ technical directive.

Since the speculation started that Red Bull and Ferrari were using illegal ‘flexi-floors’, everybody was wondering how the FIA’s ‘anti-porpoising’ technical directive, which would prevent the use of such solutions, would affect those teams.

Toto Wolff was a big proponent of the TD, and has explained numerous times how porpoising presents a serious threat to drivers’ health and wellbeing.

However, once the TD was formally introduced at the Belgian Grand Prix, it seems Red Bull had only gotten faster, which led to a dominant victory for Max Verstappen.

After the race, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner took the opportunity to mock Wolff.

“On the face of it I’d probably have to thank Toto for the TD,” the Briton said with a smile.

“In all seriousness, I think this circuit has played to our strengths. We have a very efficient car, we’ve found a very good setup and Max has just been in phenomenal form the very first lap in first practice.”

Red Bull’s advisor Dr Helmut Marko, also decided to take a shot at Wolff.

“Maybe we will have to change something about the chassis because of Toto’s new guidelines,” the Austrian said.

“They worked very well this weekend! We thank him. It seems that Mercedes have fallen back even further!” he concluded.
