Amid Red Bull’s cost cap scandal, the team’s advisor Dr Helmut Marko says “rumours that Max could lose his world title in 2021” are “complete nonsense”.

On Monday the FIA announced that Red Bull has broken the 2021 budget cap, but they did not say what the punishment will be.

Since points deduction is on the table as a penalty, many have been calling for the 2021 title to be taken away from Max Verstappen, who won it in controversial fashion at the last race in Abu Dhabi.

In a recent interview, Red Bull’s advisor Dr Helmut Marko has completely dismissed this option.

“We are still not aware of any guilt, which is why discussions with the FIA are still ongoing,” the Austrian told F1-Insider.com.

“But rumours that Max could lose his world title in 2021, for example, are complete nonsense.

“The past has shown that even extreme violations of the regulations were punished very mildly by the FIA,” Marko concluded.

It is as of yet unknown when the FIA will announce the penalty.
