2016 F1 champion Nico Rosberg says Max Verstappen has an advantage at Red Bull that he and Lewis Hamilton did not have in the past.

From 2013 until 2016, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were team-mates at Mercedes, but they were also fierce title rivals.

Lewis came out on top in 2014 and 2015, while Nico managed to finally win in 2016, before deciding to retire from the sport at the end of the year.

During that time, tensions were running high within Mercedes, and Nico Rosberg thinks it made his and Lewis’ job much harder.

As a matter of fact, the German believes Max Verstappen has an easier job fighting for the title, than he and Hamilton did in the past.

“The whole team had to maintain a neutral attitude between Lewis and I,” Rosberg told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“There was a strange atmosphere within the team because it was clear that there was rivalry within our own garage.

“As a result, there was a spirit within the team without balance, and that made it difficult to get closer together. I was in isolation at the most important point of my career.

“It should be easier for Verstappen, because he is seen as the number one driver by everyone.

“There is a calmer atmosphere at Red Bull,” Rosberg concluded.
