Nico Rosberg says Lewis Hamilton “has a point” when he says he had stronger team-mates than Max Verstappen, and adds: “[Lewis] had three world champions as team-mates and that says a lot doesn’t it?”
In an interview ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton pointed out that he has had to compete against much stronger team-mates than Max Verstappen.
Considering how Lewis’ team-mates were world champions Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg, as well as drivers like Valtteri Bottas and George Russell, there’s no doubt that it’s a very strong lineup.
On the other hand, Verstappen had to share the team with the likes of Daniel Ricciardo, Sergio Perez, Alex Albon and Pierre Gasly, all great drivers, but definitely not as accomplished as Lewis’ aforementioned team-mates.
However, when asked to comment on Lewis’ statement, Verstappen said the Briton might be “a bit jealous of my current success“.
When asked about Lewis’ comments, Nico Rosberg admitted the Briton does have a point.

“It’s a bit strange Lewis does talk about that,” Rosberg said.
“’My team-mates were so much better’, where did that come from?
“But I do think he has a point. He had three world champions as team-mates and that says a lot doesn’t it.
“Nevertheless, it’s not really that relevant because we all know how amazingly well Max is driving. Max is going very strongly towards that same level as Hamilton, [Michael] Schumacher, [Ayrton] Senna…
“He’s going to be one of those top-five greats very soon, It’s phenomenal,” the German concluded.
