Rosberg X Racing has won the inaugural electric off-road Extreme E race in Saudi Arabia, while Lewis Hamilton’s X44 team finished second.

In the final race Rosberg’s team, consisting of Johan Kristoffersson and Molly Taylor, faced Hamilton‘s, consisting of Sebastien Loeb and Christina Gutierrez and Andretti United Extreme E team, owned by McLaren boss Zak Brown.

Ultimately Rosberg’s team won the final race ahead of Andretti and Team X44. Considering points are being awarded for qualifying and the race, and Hamilton’s team won the maximum amount of points in qualifying, the final standings after the Saudi Arabian X Prix see Rosberg X Racing at the top, X44 in second and Andretti United in third.

After the race Rosberg X Racing team owner Nico Rosberg was ecstatic.

“That was insane,” the German said.

“I’m just so thankful to the team this weekend and everything has come together so well. Molly and Johan have done phenomenal driving all weekend in such tough conditions.

“They didn’t put a foot wrong and showed unbelievable speed. It is just awesome.”

X44 driver Sebastian Loeb gave his comments after the race:

“Even though we had an issue with the steering, we scored some big points and are 2nd in the championship overall, so it’s a good start to the season.

“This weekend was about learning, and we know now that X44 is fast and that we’re able to fight for a win.”

Christina Gutierrez also gave her comments:

“It was a good start for the team and we’re going to take all the positives into the rest of the championship. To be able to do so alongside a great group of people and whilst raising awareness of environmental issues is what Extreme E is all about.”
