F1 managing director Ross Brawn praised both Lewis Hamilton’s and Michael Schumacher’s abilities to “pull something out of nowhere”.
Brawn had the opportunity to work with seven-time champion Michael Schumacher during his heyday at both Benetton and Ferrari, but also lured him out of retirement to kickstart Mercedes’ return to Formula 1 in 2010. However he also had the chance to observe Lewis Hamilton up close and personal in 2013, when the Briton moved from McLaren to Mercedes.
Now, as Hamilton embarks on a mission to equal Schumacher’s championship winning record, Brawn has words of praise for both great champions.
“They are both massively talented in what they do in the car and those moments where they pull something out of nowhere,” said Brawn.
“Some of the qualifying laps Lewis has done have left the team speechless. Michael was the same, there are sometimes just those drivers who can do that.”
Brawn went on to say Lewis deserves all of the success he’s had so far.
“Lewis has deserved it, he has deserved every championship he has won. He has got himself at the right team at the right time and he is at peak performance.
“He doesn’t make mistakes and is a fantastic driver, his performance is exceptional.”
