George Russell says Lewis Hamilton “is the biggest name in the sport and he’s still hungry”, and him staying with Mercedes is “a huge vote of confidence for everybody who works at the team”.

George Russell and Lewis Hamilton have extended their Mercedes deals until the end of 2025.

Although the team has had a rough time in the past two years, George says Lewis’s decision to stay is “a huge vote of confidence for everybody”.

“Lewis is the biggest name in the sport and he’s still hungry,” the young Briton said.

“Obviously, as a team, we’re going through a bit of a difficult period. And obviously, I believe in the team, Toto believes in the team and everyone there [believes in the team].

“But Lewis, he’s achieved so much he doesn’t need to continue, but he clearly believes as well that the team has got unfinished business. So that’s a huge vote of confidence for everybody who works at the team.

“So [I’m] definitely happy to continue together,” Russell concluded.
