The 2021 Russian Grand Prix Free Practice 3 has been cancelled due to heavy rain in Sochi. Qualifying could be moved to Sunday morning.

On Saturday morning Sochi has been hit with heavy rain, which led to the cancellation of several feeder series sessions, and now the Russian Grand Prix FP3 has been cancelled.

“In the interest of safety [the decision has been taken] to modify the Official Programme by cancelling Free Practice Session 3 due to Force Majeure,” read the decision from the race stewards.

“For the purposes of the regulations and associated time limits, Free Practice Session 3 will be considered as having taken place, except where otherwise advised by the Race Director.”

Qualifying is set to be held at 3pm local time, but race director Michael Masi said earlier that there is a possibility the session will be moved to Sunday morning.

“If qualifying isn’t able to happen today, as we’ve seen a few times before in the past, then we will re-do a programme and hold qualifying on Sunday morning,” Masi said.
