Sebastian Vettel was asked about the possibility of driving for Mercedes in the future, considering Lewis Hamilton has signed a one-year deal with the team.

While Vettel was searching for his 2021 seat, after he got let go by Ferrari, there was a lot of speculation in the media about him ending up at Mercedes. At the time it was rumoured that Mercedes’ parent company Daimler was interested in having a German driver in their machinery.

The rumours turned out to be false, but during Aston Martin’s post car launch media interviews, Vettel was asked if such a move is possible in the future.

“I don’t know what Mercedes’ plan is, I also heard that Hamilton has a new deal for one year,” the German explained.

“I don’t think my German heritage plays a role in that.”

Vettel used the opportunity to highlight that his main focus currently is Aston Martin.

“My home is here now and we are quite busy with everything, we have a big challenge ahead of us and that is what we have to deal with.”

In an interview with German RTL, the four-time champion was asked who he sees as being favourite to win the 2021 title.

“I think the favourite role is shared between Mercedes and first challenger Red Bull Racing. But if we are behind them, that would be a big step for us.”
