Sebastian Vettel remains vague when it comes to Aston Martin’s testing troubles that included problems with Mercedes’ gearbox.

Mercedes wasn’t the only team to have a bad time at pre-season testing, their customer team Aston Martin also struggled. Same as Mercedes, Aston Martin also lost a lot of on-track time due to a gearbox issue, but also due to what they called a “loss of boost pressure”. This meant that Sebastian Vettel managed to accumulate only 117 laps over the three days of testing.

Aside from Mercedes’ power unit, Aston Martin also uses other components supplied by the German manufacturer, including the aforementioned gearbox. Despite this, Vettel refused to point the finger of blame at Mercedes.

“The components are in our car and mix with our own components,” the Geman told Auto Motor und Sport.

“In the end, the fault is always a little more on one side or the other. But that is not important. It’s only important that it gets fixed.”

The four-time champion also said it was hard to determine the 2021 pecking order based on testing results.

“It will be difficult to filter all the impressions because the tyres are different, the cars have changed and I’m sure lots of the experiences I’ve had, others have as well.

“That’s where it’s all relative for performance. From what I’ve seen it looks to be very close, it would be good if it were like that.

“Red Bull look very strong, Mercedes have everything to be at the top and it looks like all the midfield has caught up,” concluded the German.
