After winning the Azerbaijan Grand Prix Red Bull’s Sergio Perez said he felt sorry for Lewis Hamilton after a lock-up cost him a possible race win.
Following race leader Max Verstappen’s tyre puncture and crash on lap 49 of 51, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was red flagged, with Sergio Perez in P1 and Lewis Hamilton in P2.
The race was them restarted with a standing start and Lewis immediately overtook Perez, however after a lock-up he went into the run-off area and ultimately finished the race in P15.
It was later revealed that the lock-up happened due to Lewis accidentally pushing Mercedes’ ‘brake magic’ button.

After winning the race, Perez said he felt sorry for Lewis.
”Everything worked perfectly today apart from the restart at the end where I just had no grip,” the Mexican driver said in Red Bull’s team report.
“I thought I cannot lose this race two laps from the flag, so I broke as late as I could into Turn 1 and then I saw Lewis locking up and go straight on into the run off.
“It just shows how on the limit we are, the speeds we are doing are tremendous and I am sorry for Lewis because it’s very painful when these things happen, but we are all vulnerable to mistakes,” concluded Perez.
