Silverstone has renamed the stretch of track that includes the start/finish line after Lewis Hamilton. It will now be known as the Hamilton Straight.
This will be the firtst part of the Silverstone circuit named after a driver. The incredible honour comes after Lewis Hamilton won his seventh Formula 1 world championship, equalling Michael Schumacher’s record, and broke the record for most pole positions and most race wins in history.
The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), the owners of the circuit, said that they “felt this unique honour was an appropriate way to recognise Lewis cementing his position as the most successful driver in the history of Formula 1”.

“I was delighted, in my capacity as President of the BRDC, to share this news with Lewis today,“ said BRDC Presiden David Coulthard.
“It is the first time in Silverstone’s history that a part of the circuit has been named after any individual.
“Lewis has become a huge part of this history and the directors of the Club and I felt there was no better way to mark this than to rename the iconic pits straight in recognition of his record-breaking achievements.”
Hamilton also holds the record for most race wins at Silverstone.
