Sky Sports’ Craig Slater reports that “Mercedes have taken up the contractual option they already had on [George Russell], and they have extended that to the end of the 2025 season”.

While Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes contract continues to fascinate the F1 media, George Russell’s deal has been a more straightforward matter.

Russell joined Mercedes back in 2022 on what they announced as a “long-term deal”, which reportedly means he was signed until 2024, with an option for an extension until the end of 2025.

Sky Sports F1 now reports that Mercedes has decided to trigger this clause, and extend George’s contract.

“Mercedes have taken up the contractual option they already had on him, and they have extended that to the end of the 2025 season,” Sky Sports’ Craig Slater said.

“There’s been no formal announcement on this from Mercedes because it was already within their power to enforce this option they had, but that’s what they’ve gone and done.

“I learned about from some senior figures in the sport yesterday, and I have been able to confirm that it has actually happened,” Slater concluded.
