Sky says Hamilton is “still waiting for the result of that FIA inquiry”

Sky Sports F1’s Craig Slater details what Lewis Hamilton did at Mercedes’ factory and says his 2022 return still depends on the results of FIA’s Abu Dhabi inquiry.

Lewis Hamilton has definitely ended his silence and he is currently at hard at work preparing for the new Formula 1 season with Mercedes.

Earlier this week he has been at the Mercedes factory, and yesterday the team announced he will definitely be present at the W13 launch on February 18.

However, after BBC’s Andrew Benson already reported Hamilton’s 2022 F1 return is still in doubt, Sky Sports F1’s Craig Slater now says the same thing.

“That is still a doubt,” Slater said.

“He is still waiting for the result of that FIA inquiry, even though he tweeted ‘I’m back’.

“Even though we learned yesterday that he had been to the Mercedes factory and I can provide a little more detail with regards to what he got up to.

“He met with engineers, he was in the simulator for the 2022 car and it was explained to me that he has a good idea of what is ahead of him in terms of Mercedes’ readiness for the new season. So, a series of meetings, a full day at the factory.

“But that is preparation in order that should he be satisfied with the FIA’s findings, he can go ahead and be fully prepared for the new Formula One season,” Slater concluded.
