Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says the team’s “mindset for the last 12 years was that we don’t need to be World Champions in pit stops, we just need to avoid slow pit stops”.

One of the issues Mercedes faced throughout the 2023 season was subpar pit stop times.

While Red Bull and McLaren often preformed their pit stops in under two seconds, it sometimes took Mercedes over three seconds to do their work.

Team boss Toto Wolff says this is something the team is focused on fixing ahead of the 2024 season.

“Our mindset for the last 12 years was that we don’t need to be World Champions in pit-stops, we just need to avoid slow pit-stops,” the Austrian said.

“It is coming to a situation now where we realise because it has become so competitive, we just need to ramp our game out there.

“In terms of equipment and science around it, we will be making a step up to [be better] than three-and-a-half seconds,” Wolff concluded.
