Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says the team will use Austria as a test if the new black livery could cause overheating.
Mercedes’ black livery was introduced last week as a pledge to promote diversity and support the fight against racial injustice.
However the all-black livery might cause a problem with overheating, something that Mercedes struggled with throughout 2019. In a teleconference at the Austrian Grand Prix Wolff said Mercedes is aware of the possible problem.
“In the end, the messaging and the marketing is very important, but if performance is being harmed, that’s obviously not great,” said Wolff.
“We have made some calculations – the weather is expected to be 30 degrees – and we will see whether our simulations with the silver car are different to the results on track with the black car.
“It’s a little bit of an unknown.”
