Toto Wolff says accusation that his former advisor Shaila-Ann Rao ‘leaked’ information on the cost cap breach, is “an attempt by Red Bull to shift the focus”.

Even before the FIA officially announced that Red Bull had breached the 2021 budget cap, this situation was widely discussed around the paddock.

This led to Red Bull’s advisor Dr Helmut Marko implying that the ‘leak’ came from Toto Wolff’s former special advisor Shaila-Ann Rao, who is currently serving as Interim FIA Secretary General for Motor Sport.

Toto Wolff denies this and says he believes the ‘leak’ came from a different place.

“The leak is not from the FIA,” the Austrian said.

“There are ten finance directors [at F1 teams] sitting together all year trying to figure out who did what. Who talked about it? I think it was them.

“But there was a violation – so it doesn’t matter how it came about. A violation is a violation.

“This is also a kind of secondary theatre of war, it is an attempt by Red Bull to shift the focus,” Wolff concluded.
