Toto Wolff says “to be recognised and celebrated by a country that calls Ayrton Senna one of their own is a true measure of Lewis’ incredible achievements”.

Ahead of the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton officially received the honorary citizenship of Brazil in a special ceremony at Brazil’s Congress chamber.

Lewis was proposed for citizenship after his dominant performance at the 2021 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, and his legendary celebration with the Brazilian flag afterwards.

After the ceremony, Mercedes congratulated Lewis via a message from team boss Toto Wolff.

“It is a special moment today for Lewis as he becomes an honorary citizen of Brasil,” Wolff wrote.
