After Sebastian Vettel got criticized for admitting he would “vote Green”, while still participating in a sport like Formula 1, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff jumped to his defence.
Vettel recently told Der Spiegel that he has embraced solar power, electric cars and filtered tap water, and added that he would “vote Green”.
This caused a lot of criticism in his home country of Germany, where politicians called him out for being a hypocrite, because he still chooses to participate in a sport like Formula 1.
However, Toto Wolff came to his defence.
“Sebastian is someone who not only looks at sustainability, but also lives by it,” the Austrian told Bild.
“It is his nature that he has this attitude. That’s absolutely fine with me.

“Of course it is sometimes a tightrope to fly around the world as a Formula 1 driver, operate these monster machines and at the same time say you’re choosing green.
“So he has to put up with that criticism, but he wears his heart on his sleeve and says what he thinks without paying much attention to people’s reactions.
“He thinks it’s important and that’s why he says it,” concluded Mercedes’ team boss.
Vettel now joins Lewis Hamilton as another world champion who has decided to publicly show his concern for environmental issues
