Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has a good reason to be happy, after his team locked out the front row at the Austrian Grand Prix Qualifying.
The first qualifying session of the 2020 season ended with Valtteri Bottas in P1 and his team-mate Lewis Hamilton just 0.012s behind him. However Wolff is aware the battle is not over just yet.
“We knew we had a strong car,” Wolff told Sky Sports after qualifying.
“We didn’t know if there would be a surprise from Red Bull, we are always vigilant. They took a risk to go for another strategy, knowing that the temperature would be different.
“Maybe they took that risk because they knew they were going to be short on speed.”
Wolff went on to praise Valtteri Bottas for his amazing result.
“It’s so good to come back. Everything came together today which is also a good indication for the season.
“This is a circuit that suits [Valtteri}. He’s done a good job.”
