After the British Grand Prix, a jubilant Toto Wolff joked around with journalists about Mercedes’ choice between George Russell and Valtteri Bottas.
After a spectacular win by Lewis Hamilton at the British Grand Prix, and Valtteri Bottas’ great performance, RTL asked Toto Wolff if there are any news on Mercedes’ 2022 line-up.
“Now we’ll see what decision we make – or have already made but haven’t said yet,” the Austrian joked.
The reporters asked him if he could maybe make an announcement right now?
“Unfortunately I don’t have any news, I don’t know which way it’s going yet.” Wolff said while winking into the camera.

Wolff then talked about “difficult conversations” he sometimes has to have as a team principal.
“To say to someone ‘that’s it’, that’s a very difficult conversation and something you’d rather not do.
“I have to have the unpleasant conversations too, even if it’s incredibly difficult.”
Ultimately he gave a short statement on George Russell Russell.
“He definitely has what it takes to be a world champion. You have to bring him carefully, that’s what we did,” concluded the Austrian.
