George Russell and Lewis Hamilton had a close on-track battle at the Canadian Grand Prix, and when Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was asked it was ‘too close’, he gave a simple verdict.

In the final laps at the Canadian Grand Prix, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were involved in a close battle for P3.

George, who was on Medium tyres while Lewis was on Hards, managed to overtake his team-mate, but before the battle Mercedes sent him a radio warning:

“We are racing, just remember, it goes without saying keep it clean please.”

The battle was indeed clean, and George later stated he knew he could ‘trust’ Lewis.

However, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was still asked afterwards if the battle was perhaps ‘too close’.

“No, I’ve had much worse,” the Austrian said, obviously referring to Lewis’ past fierce battles with team-mate and title-rival Nico Rosberg.
