Toto Wolff says he plans on staying on as Mercedes’ team boss for at least another year, while he looks for a possible replacement.

Wolff’s contract with Mercedes will expire at the end of 2020 and he already indicated he is thinking about a different role within the company and looking for his replacement. However, now the Austrian now told ORF that he intends to stay on as team principal for at least another year.

”I think I will stay for another year and will indeed stay as team boss,“ said Wolff.

“I think the next two years could be an interesting situation and as long as I enjoy it, I want to keep doing it.

“I know that I will slowly have to train my replacement and he might be able to work alongside me next year.”

Wolff further explains his plans to Motorsport-total.com.

”When the time is right, I will continue in another role. As shareholders, we need to think about what is best for the team.

“Right now is not my time to leave, because we haven’t found anyone yet to whom I can hand over the baton.

”I am busy trying to find the best man or woman to succeed me, but I haven’t succeeded overnight. If I succeed, I can take on a new role.

“I’ve always been of the opinion that you shouldn’t go from very good to good, because then someone else would be better able to take over.

”I feel that I can still make a contribution, but I want to think ahead about how I want the structure of the team in the future”, concluded Wolff.
