Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff talks about Lewis Hamilton’s history-making win at the Portuguese Grand Prix and mentions his “huge” contract.
After Lewis Hamilton scored his 92th career win and broke the record for most Formula 1 race wins, Toto Wolff was ecstatic.
“92 race wins. Who would have thought that when we embarked on the project in 2013? It’s almost a surreal amount of wins,” Toto Wolff told Sky Sports F1.
“Absolute passion and energy that he puts into the sport. He has the talent and ability which just stands out.
“It is the first time this year that I see him building up the weekend from training to the race. He reflects a lot, understanding the tyre for the race.

“I think we’ve seen that a couple of times now and that pressure puts Bottas in a worse position in relation to the tyres. [Hamilton is] very good at it strategically.”
Wolff was also asked about Hamilton’s contract with Mercedes, as his current deal expires at the end of 2020.
“It’s huge,” joked Wolff.
“We have to sell plenty of inventory, sell the lease back of the buildings, just to come up with the money.”
