Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says since Imola the team has “taken the right steps” and they “seem to be adding performance every weekend”.
After getting P3 and P4 at the Canadian Grand Prix, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is insisting the team is now on the right development path.
However, he is still careful not to celebrate the team’s recovery too early.
“I am always a bit worried when you’re being carried away that everything seems to be now falling into place because this is a difficult sport,” the Austrian said.
“And we’ve had this positive trajectory now since the last three races, and everything seems to be making much more sense. So the stopwatch will tell us.
Toto added that the team’s recovery started with the upgrade package introduced at Imola.
“Sometimes when you bring a highly visible part like a bodywork or a front wing, that is pretty much the talk of what has changed the performance.

“The truth is we have, over the last three races, brought so many new parts, visible and invisible to the eye that has contributed milliseconds to more performance.
“I think this is where those marginal gains then have that positive effect. That was just a huge effort of the factory, so I think the wheel has started to get some real motion now.
“I think definitely since Imola we’ve taken the right steps and put parts on the car that are working, and that is something that we were struggling with in the past couple of years.
“Now, directionally, we seem to be adding performance every weekend. We have new stuff coming also, new parts coming in Barcelona – that should help.
“So, I would very much hope that we can continue this positive trajectory,” Wolff concluded.
