Footage emerged of fans booing a yelling “cheater” to Max Verstappen at the Unites States Grand Prix. Toto Wolff reacts.

On Saturday footage emerged from the Circuit of the Americas of fans booing Max Verstappen during fan events, and yelling “cheater” at him.

This is obviously a reaction to Red Bull’s breach of the 2021 budget cap, which has still not been resolved. The same reportedly happened to Sergio Perez too.

When journalists asked Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff about this, he said this behaviour is not acceptable.

“That is unacceptable,” Wolff told Sky Germany.

“The booing, whether it’s on the podium or on the fan stage, nobody wants to see that.

“I think we have done a lot against this kind of behaviour. It is somewhat contained and it doesn’t belong here either. Something like that should not happen.”

The Austrian also mentioned how this happened to Lewis Hamilton on tracks which had majority Red Bull and Verstappen fans, but in both cases this should not be happening.

“It goes both ways. In Austria it was against Lewis, here it is massively against Max. We have to get everyone on the same page.

“We fight hard on and off the track, but we don’t have that kind of hostility towards each other,” Wolff concluded.
