Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff gives his verdict on Max Verstappen’s 2022 and says “the pendulum is swinging in his favour” now that “he has the fastest car”.
The battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen back in 2021 will go down in history as one of the most exciting and closely fought F1 title battles ever.
This makes the controversial outcome of that fight, which saw Max Verstappen win the title after the race director broke several Safety Car rules and protocols, very unfortunate for the sport.
However, while in 2021 Verstappen at times had an advantage over Hamilton when it comes to how fast their cars were (especially in the first half of the season), in 2022 the Dutch driver seems to have the dominant car, faster even than Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari.

And that’s exactly what Toto Wolff said, when asked to give his verdict of Verstappen’s 2022 performance so far.
“Last year Max drove a worse car [than in 2022] with a crowbar and won the title,” the Austrian told OE24.
“Now that he has the fastest car, everything is easier for him.
“The pendulum is swinging in his favour,” Wolff concluded.
