At the Monaco Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton was not able to move further than P8, because an obviously slower Fernando Alonso was holding him up for most of the race, on the narrow street circuit.
Alonso even boasted afterwards that it was “extremely easy” to keep Hamilton behind, and said that Lewis being ‘frustrated’ about it, was “not my problem”.
Well, after the race Toto Wolff took a slight jab at the Spaniard, saying he had pace like he was driving a “Formula 2 car”.
“Five seconds is like a Formula 2 car,” the Austrian said.
“This is such a spectacle here, a fantastic venue and it is always amazing to be here.

“But we need to maybe look in a way at the layout where we can basically close the loop for going five seconds slower and cars still can’t overtake.”
When asked if Hamilton could have finished higher had he not been held up, Wolff said:
“Absolutely. First of all, there was the incident with Esteban [Ocon] for which [Ocon] got a penalty.
“Then yeah, he could have been right there and closed Lando [Norris]’s pit stop window or even have fought with Lando and George [Russell] in the front because that was his pace.
“The regs are the regs and there is nothing to say. You can see another lesson that track position is everything in Monaco,” Toto concluded.
